have some opium poppy seeds. just seeing if there's any demand for these and what the going price interest would be.

Funny you should ask about the piper seeds..
Is there a potential market for any seeds from a-z or anything ethnobotany related. Thats one thing AU can offer is a massive variety of seeds and plant related materials if enough interest was to arise I would definantly start a dedicated worldwide seed service. We have a lot of exotics and other little gems native to Aus! If interested enquire within.
And not trying to steal your biz or marketing idea ntek, just simply curious on interest in botanics.
Peace

I've got a couple grams of SOMNIFERUM seeds, but I cant remember where they are at the moment.

I'd be interested. Put it up on SR and I'd buy for sure.

the seeds have been lying around for about a year, going to plant a few and see if they sprout up. i'll see what i can do. need to buy a seller account too. going to see what kind of inventory i can accumulate or else its not really worth buying the seller account. wish me luck.

Although I've never done it, it's my understanding that papaver somniferum seeds can be steeped into a very effective tea, although I think it would take more than a couple grams of the tiny buggers to make it. The dried pods themselves are even better, at least according to, I think, Erowid.
Oz/NZ have many fields of ps do they not? And IIRC seeds/dried pods are not strictly prohibited downunder as in the States. Although in the states the dried pods themselves are permissible for use in floral arrangements, although they are scarce as hell, and usually ordered from Canada I believe. I don't know what problems/harassment might be encountered by those in the states who order the dried pods.
As for cultivation, that's a whole different situation. It needs a temperate, coolish climate IIRC, but I have no idea what size plot might be needed to justify the cultivation time (3-4 mos or so) and feeding, watering, thinning, cutting and harvesting effort. And I'm just talking for personal consumption, say, over the cold winter when cabin fever starts to come on. After all that time it's one thing to yield a goodly stash of a few oz of black gum, and another to wind up with a ball the size of a marble.
As for market for seeds, I'd be interested in a reasonable offer of stock for tea.

@sardoni-yeah, it DOES take a whole lot more than a couple ounces of the seeds. Takes about 2 lbs IIRC from erowid. The codeine and thebaine is all in the walls of the pod. That's why they score them in the field. The resin oozes out, very much like a sap tree for maple syrup.
I doubt anyone is going to raise even a modest field of poppies in anyplace except the most remote areas of NZ. Remember: when they mature they turn that very bright turquoise blue color, pod and stem. They can be seen easily from a mile away. :) And you definitely want to get Nomad's papaver somniferum seeds if you're going to do it. That's the variety that has the most opium in it.
There's a great handbook that the DEA puts out about how heroin is made, from the poppy thru to the powder. It even tells you the amounts of chemicals to use and even the amounts and it has step by step instructions. The first time I read it I couldn't believe it. It was as good as a Jack Herer book on growing pot.
Here's the link, if anyone wants to read it: http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40013

i did a bit of reading on a tasmanian farmers board and one farmer was posting pictures of his opium crop and saying how he gets $4000 per hectare!!!!thats a pitiful amount...a farmer in tazmania could make that in a week on SR sat at his computer for an hour day...crazy...im sure that prospect would make them turn over to the other side.lol...

IIRC, 1 hectare = +/- 2.5 acres, or about $1,600 per US acre. (I assume that's $AU, which is worth just a wee bit under $US). I wonder what the weight yield is per hectare. The $4,000 return sounds very modest. Actually, pretty significant under-performance I think, in view of the fact that he could sell the hell out of just the dried pods/seeds on SR. However, I am under the impression that AU/NZ keep an extremely close eye on their legal poppy growers. So it might be noticed by authorities if a grower starts shipping packages around the world, particularly since the shipments would contain bulky and potentially aromatic pods/seeds.

The poppy seeds on your bagel are P. Somniferum seeds. It's important to get the Tasmanian seeds. They use a mechanical process to extract the opium which means the seeds get coated in the opium latex much more than the traditional Dutch Blue seeds. There supposedly cleaned, but nonetheless some lots will yield enough morphine when washed in cold water with a little lemon juice. Even 300g can do the trick. Anecdotal evidence says they will also sprout. Furthermore the Tasmanian strain has been specifically bred for high morphine. Again all edible poppy seeds are p. somniferum and if you plant enough you will get sprouts. These seeds are legal, so don't pay more than you have too.
